Just before we reach the southernmost point of the island, Kalotaritissa bay, the famous attraction of the island, the shipwreck of Amorgos, can be found.
In February 1980, while very strong winds were blowing in the Aegean Sea, the merchant ship Olympia failed to anchor and ran aground in the small bay of Livero.

The shipwreck became world-famous a few years later, in 1988, when director Luc Besson was fascinated by it and included it in one of the shots of his iconic film Le grand Bleu.
To reach the shipwreck, take the road to Kalotaritissa and, as soon as you spot it from above in your right hand side, park your vehicle at the beginning of the long straight.
After walking for about 10-15 minutes on the small downhill path, you will be led to the small bay and the ship.
Although the path is easy to medium level, the use of closed-toe shoes is recommended.
Do not try to swim on the spot, since the boat is full of rust, so there is a risk to your safety.
Of course you can admire it and take snaps from the shore, as it is one of the sights that will forever be etched in your memory.
