If you only had one day in Amorgos

Summer vacations are never enough.

Or rather, vacations in general are never enough.

I believe we all agree on that.

But what if we had the chance to travel around the world and spend only one day in each location? An alluring, but also challenging notion.

In recent years, the daily connection of Amorgos with the islands of Santorini and Mykonos, as well as Paros, Naxos and the small Cyclades, offers visitors the opportunity to travel to Amorgos even for only 24 hours.

Of course this is not ideal, because Amorgos is a large island with many interesting places to visit.

However, I will try to give you information about the most important things you could do in Amorgos if you only had one day at your disposal!

Once you arrive at the port and then at your hotel, you should have already prebooked a rental vehicle, car or motorbike. All agencies can now bring it to your hotel car park for free.

You are most likely to arrive on the island early in the afternoon, so put your swimsuit on and go to the most famous beach of Amorgos, Agia Anna.

Make sure you have clothes in your backpack to change, so that you can then go up to the monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa, the most important attraction of the island, which is located close by.

By the time you climb down from the monastery, it will most probably be around 7pm, the ideal time to wander around Chora and have a cocktail or aperitif.

It’s now probably around 9pm, so make a quick stop at your hotel for a shower and then dinner, dessert and drink in Katapola or Aegiali, depending on your accommodation.

If you’re in a party mood, return to Chora for nightlife until the morning.

If that is your choice, you ought to be very careful on the road. It would be a good idea for someone from the group not to drink alcohol so that they can drive safely.

In the morning, and after breakfast, you still have a little time to visit the south side of the island making three quick stops: Mouros beach, the famous shipwreck of Amorgos and finally Kalotaritissa beach.

Return to the hotel where you’ve left your luggage and quickly back to the port for departure.

Amorgos is an island not recommended for just one day.

But if you only have one day at your disposal, you are most welcome and we’re waiting for you.
